Happy Memorial Day from Classic Movie Man: Remember Those Who Served

Carole Lombard leads a packed house in singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Cadle Tabernacle in Indianapolis, IN, at a bond rally, January 15, 1942. This would be Lombard’s last public appearance before her tragic death in a plane crash the following day. She was 33 years old.

  1. I love the photo set from LIFE of Lombard's last war bond rally. It's so heart breaking but very beautiful and touching.
Lombard's death was tragic (and I tear up when I think about it)-but as silly as it may sound-I feel like she was at a good point in her life. She was very happy when she talked to Clark for the last time.
Thank you for posting this :)

    1. Dear Jessica, thanks for stopping by. I love those images as well. Imagine you're a small town kid during some pretty horrible times for America and this glamorous movie star shows up in an evening gown and leads the whole community in "The Star-Spangled Banner." How inspiring must that have been?
